The Ninth Gate is another Johnny Depp movie that doesn’t quite fit the Hollywood norm.

And no wonder. It was directed by Roman Polanski.

This mystery thriller about the rare book business, which turns out to be a very cutthroat world. Rare-book dealer Dean Corso (Johnny Depp) is hired by an extremely rich guy to validate a seventeenth-century copy of The Nine Gates of the Kingdom of Shadows. In the process of trying to determine the book’s authenticity, Corso runs into all sorts of trouble.

Rotten Tomatoes has it at 41%, but that is way low. This movie is no masterpiece by any means, but it is a pretty good movie. Action, boobs, the Devil himself (or herself?). Highly recommended, but with a warning that this isn’t your typical movie.
